Aquarium Life at SCACD

Happy Friday!  I have a mixed-media project for you today. Because this post is heavy with photos and explanations for each that I decided to get on with it.

My project is a 5”x7” stretched canvas. The first step was to head to my stash of colored tissue paper. I had some light and dark turquoise which was perfect. I tore a few strips of each and layered them on the canvas with DecoArt Matt Medium.

As you can see in the above two photos I stamped the Coral SunFlower Set with gold ink and embossed with gold embossing powder on white tissue paper, tore around each, and adhered them to the canvas with more matt medium.

After the above base was dry, I started cutting my dies. The dies that I used are Memory Box’s Sketchy Rings, Oceana Corner, Diving Dolphins, Swimming Sea Horses, and Poppystamp’s Weeping Willow Branches. The Angel Fish Trio were stamped with black pigment ink and embossed with black embossing powder. When they cooled down, I water colored each with Twinkling H2Os.

Above is a picture before mounting the Angel Fish Trio. You can see where I painted the die cuts with acrylic and glitter paint. I also started my bottom layer with my sea shell stash. Most of the shells have been dry brushed with paint to help with the toning down of the while shells.

Above I have added the trio of Angel Fish. There was still something lacking.

That something missing as the bottom of the sea bed did not look complete. I added some Prills hoping it looks like sand. I have also taken some Deco Art Liquid Glass and made a few bubbles.

I would like to enter the following challenges with my Aquarium Life:
Your Scrapbook Place – Anything Goes
613 Avenue Create – Anything Goes
Lil Patch of Crafty Friends – Anything Goes

I hope that you have enjoyed my aquarium adventure. I am sure that I can find a place for this wall art somewhere in my house. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. It's fascinating to watch these rich layers build. What a fabulous canvas...so much dimension and texture. Love the undersea scene you have created to showcase these gorgeous fish. Absolute yum! Strangely enough, I just received that sketchy rings die in an order this past Monday. Hmmm!
