Hairy Legs at Delicious Doodles

Yep, our new challenge at Delicious Doodles (DD) is all about “Hairy Legs!” We want you to interpret that in any way you would like. You do not have to use an image from Teri’s wonderful imagination, but if you do your entry will count twice. All the information is spelled out in the DDchallenge post.

I decided to go with something a little saner than what I have been doing. My “hairy legs” inspiration came from the DD image “Rowena.” It’s Rowena’s pet mouse that has the hairy legs, but then maybe Rowena did not shave her legs for a month. ;o) Who knows?

Anyway, Rowena was colored with Copics and a few accents made with glitter pens and a white gel pen. After I colored her, I trimmed her, added Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to the edges. She was layered on Stampin’ Up!’s cardstock in Cherry Cobbler and Brushed Gold.

Skin: E000, 00, 11, R02

Hair: E42, 43, 44, 47, 49

Leaves: YG91, 93, 95, 97, 99

Berries, lips: R21, 29, 89

Mouse: E21, 23, R02

For the finished card I layered the designer paper, My Mind’s Eye Lost & Found Christmas Collection, with more of SU’s cardstock. I added some die cut corners, Cherry Lynn’s Lace Corner Deco A, and some more flourishes to the sides of the central image, Memory Box Amira Flourish.

‘Twas the night before Christmas…

…and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” This time of year is my favorite for creating Christmas cards. I always do the traditional and complimentary colors, red and green, even in my house. I may add the touch of gold or purple, but the majority of my cards will be very strong in red and green. With that rule, “The Night before Christmas” image, designed by Rick St. Dennis MFA (RSD) for I Brake for Stamps (IBFS), was perfect for those two colors. You can find this little guy in digital format in the RSD’s digital section under the Randi Dandi Section at IBFS.

I colored “The Night before Christmas” with Copics and added some Gelly Roll Stardust glitter pen for some accents. After I fussy cut the image I layered it on Stampin’ Up!’s Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler cardstock.

Candle, ornament, & bow tie: R20, 22, 24, 27, 29

Berries: RV91, 93, 95, 99

My dies cuts are Spellbinder’s Holly Motifs. Before I release the cardstock from the die, I distressed the embossed areas with Gathered Straw Distress Ink and added Stardust glitter pen to those areas.  The cuts around my main image are from the biggest die, but cut into fourths and the added to the back of the layered image. Finished it off with some flat-backed red pearls. My designer paper is from the Bazzil Basics Countdown to Christmas collection.

Meet Priscilla Pilgrim from RSD

I adore all the mice characters that Rick has let pop out of his brain. These were a special request from Monique and I, and he has created some of the most lovable mice that you will ever see. I have challenged myself to get at least 10 Christmas cards done this year, all using Rick’s mice and his other amazing images.

On to my project… I made a 5¾” art card with PriscillaPilgrim. This little piece of art was a lot of fun to make. I got to get my fingers all messed up. First Priscilla was colored with Copics. I then trimmed her with Spellbinder’s large square die. I added Gathered Twigs Distress ink to the edges and layered with Stampin’ Up!’s (SU) Early Espresso and Really Rust.

Leaf: G40, 85, 94, 99, and YR12, 18

Acorns: E31, 33, 34, 37, and G40, 85

Dress & Bow: V09, 12, 15, 17

Background: W00, 0, 1, 2, 3, and YR01

Now it’s time to get messy. I die cut the mums from Cheery Lynn’s Chrysanthemum Strip in SU’s Elegant Eggplant cardstock. After the shaping, I added some Dusty Concord Distress Ink to the very tips and then I glued all layers together. When they were dry, I added Viva Décor Violet 3-D stamp paint with my fingers to the very tips. I felt like I had better control of the paint.

My leaves were created from Spellbinder’s Classic Leaf die. I cut them from SU’s Early Espresso cardstock. I then added Viva Décor 3-D stamp paint in Moss Green with a sponge. These paints dry almost instantly, so I dipped my finger in the Violet stamp paint and dabbed this on the leaves. I felt like that was still not enough, so I took some Viva Décor Inka Gold in copper on my finger tip and wiped that just on the very tips. I love the look of these leaves, very fall-ish.
