TTCRD Anything Goes Challenge

The artist that I chose to work with is exclusive artist Jeremiah Ketner, a Chicago based artist, who tends to paint charming little creatures floating through pastel dreamscapes. His Japanese pop art imagery tends to describe the casual and carefree side of life. Jeremiah Ketner has been busy painting and exhibiting his works all over the nations.

It was very difficult to choose which image I wanted, but I finally picked Jeremiah Ketner’s Kimono. 

I will definitely be purchasing more of his designs.

I have broken down my Copic coloring steps. Unfortunately I did not record my process. I also have started using Strathmore’s Bristol Smooth Service 300 series as my coloring cardstock. I am enjoying my coloring again!

Bunny Blessings, TTCRD Challenge, and Copic Coloring

Happy Tuesday everyone. It’s time for our new weekly “anything goes” challenge at Through the Craft Room Door. Our sponsor this week is Wink Wink Ink. Melanie, owner and artist of Wink Wink Ink, has the most adorable and winsome images. I hope you stop by her shop and pick up a few.

A little about Wink Wink Ink: “I am a self-taught digital artist (I am still learning) who is inspired by my love for animals, God’s creations, and my every growing collection of children’s picture books.”

The image that I chose is “Bunny Blessings.”  When you purchase one of Melanie’s images you will receive four versions of that image, jpeg format, png format, light line for no-line coloring, and pre-colored for you to layer or use as a coloring guide. Pretty cool, huh?

Artist Jeremiah Ketner, a Chicago based artist, who tends to paint charming little creatures floating through pastel dreamscapes. His Japanese pop art imagery tends to describe the casual and carefree side of life. Jeremiah Ketner has been busy painting and exhibiting his works all over the nations.

Jeremiah’s image that I have colored is Spirals. You can purchase, at Crafts and Me, this image and others by Jeremiah, as a digital image or as an unmounted rubber stamp.

The photos below give you an idea of what I color first and the Copics I used also. I am working on a coloring video, but that will come later.

Depending on the technique, the background is what I color first.

The splotches are created with alcohol and micro-fine tip applicators. 

Skin and blush are next.

The way I color skin is lightest color first, darkest next.

My technique is E50, 04, 13, 11, 53, 51, and E50 again, blending as I go with each color.

The blush is R20 as the shade, and R11 for blending. I hope this makes sense.

Hair is my next area to tackle.

I do a lot of flicking with hair and work from light to dark.

The two photos above are the coloring of  the Jasmine, Orchids,

dove, and dress. At first her dress reminded me of bark.

I really did not want brown again, so it turned into leaves.

Other supplies (all links below) are Bristol Smooth 300 series for my cardstock,

accents with Memento Markers in Pear Tart, Sweet Plum, and Bamboo Leaves,

and a Molotow white pain pen for more background accents.

Anything Goes Challenge Starting Today at TTCRD

Hi all! We have a new “anything goes” challenge at Through the Craft Room Door (TTCRD). Our sponsor this week is Stamping Studio. Stamping Studio’s prize is one image from each of their artists. I have chosen “Daisy Girl” for my pop-up card. This is just the second time that I have used Spellbinder’s Decorated Birthday Pop Ups die and I love it! I have definitely used a lot of blue, so I guess I can say, “I have stepped out of my Copic comfort zone.”

TTCRD July 4th "Anything Goes" Challenge

Happy Freedom Day to everyone in the United States!

Welcome to our first Through the Craft Room Door (TTCRD) challengefor July 4, 2017. The theme is “anything goes”, as it is every week. Team A designers were honored to create and color images from Morgan’s Artworld. Click on the name of her shop and check out the amazing Fae artwork.

Here’s a little history about Morgan: ‘’Morgan Fitzsimons is a British artist, illustrator, and author. Borth in the north of England in1939, she has been drawing and painting since she could hold a brush. Morgan studied at LJMU, gaining her NDD, ATC, AND BA. Morgan is a tradional artist and works in many mediums. Her artwork has been displayed all over the world. Morgan has also been involved in many art related and non-art related industries. She taught in scho9ols for 20 years and retired as Head of Special Needs. She has also developed and published educational packs and teaching aids as well as fictional work. She has also been involved in designing costumes for various opera and theatre companies, and was also a wildlife artist for several chairities and organizations.’’

Most of you know I am happiest when I color hair and flowers with Copics. “Fae 3” from Morgan Fitzsimons was right up my alley.

Another note about my coloring: I have started using Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface 300 Series stock. And I must say, this is now my favorite cardstock for my alcohol marker coloring.

New Challenge this week at TTCRD

Welcome again! We have a new challenge blog at Through the Craft Room Door (TTCRD) starting today. Our challenge is “anything goes”, as it is every week. Our sponsor this week is the very talented artist, Heather Valentin of Lacy Sunshine.

A little bit about Heather:

“Heather Valentin is a lady who breathed art her entire life. She was drawing as soon as she could hold a crayon. Guided by her farther, she found her truest joy in drawing and painting. Making people smile with her art is Heather's greatest joy.”

Today I decided on Heather’s image “Rory’s Hollyhocks”. Rory, of course, was colored with Copics. All of Heather’s Rory images are my favorite to use with my Copics and turning into cards or mixed-media projects. Take a look at all her characters she has in her online store, Lacy Sunshine. Her range of characters is extraordinary and perfect for YOU to use in your creations.

After the coloring I decided to create the background. I usually try and complete the background first, but not this time. (I forgot this first step because I was so excited I was coloring Heather’s images again!)  My “bubbles” were created with dipping a micro tip into alcohol and touching the background inks.

When my coloring was complete, as was my layout, I decided that she needed more flowers. I chose a couple of dies (see links below), and colored the stems with green Copic marker. For the blooms I colored with an amethyst sparkle marker. To add a little more sparkle for the entire project, I added a clear glitter marker on the dark purple cardstock. The final touch was Dandelion Yellow crystal drops and a few flat-backed pearls.
